Fight Back!

Gay Rainbow is mostly Green: Newsweek calls Barak Obama "The First Gay President." The news magazine’s gay blogger, Andrew Sullivan, who wrote the story, said he was moved to tears when Obama endorsed gay marriage.  But the real news in the story is not about high-minded principles of human rights and equality -- it’s about raw political power. One in six of Obama’s "bundlers" — a political term for people who raise mega dollars within their circles of influence — is gay.  As the saying goes, follow the money. Actor George Clooney’s high-powered Hollywood fund-raiser the day after the President’s gay marriage announcement netted a record-breaking $15 million in one night. Chad Griffin, a member of Obama’s National Finance Committee and a prominent gay rights leader, said his constituency "will be more energized, more enthusiastic," noting, "I don't know anyone staying on the sidelines." In June, Fox TV's "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy and a man he calls his "fiancé," David Miller, are hosting a dinner for the President at $25,000 per person/$40,00 per couple. The dinner and a concert earlier in the day could raise $5 million-$10 million more for Obama’s reelection campaign. With the Republicans offering tepid candidates and only marginal tweaks on important policy issues, the Obama campaign seems to have taken a dramatic turn to the left to energize its more radical base of support. However, that maneuver is risky, and Middle American voters will be pivotal players come November. A May 10th Gallup /USA Today poll revealed that among the all-important independent voters that candidates need to win, 11 percent are more likely to vote for Obama, but 23 percent less likely because of his endorsement of gay marriage. That 12 percent difference is clout, more than gay money can buy. So how can Middle America fight back against what looks like a tide of energized Obama campaigners?  First of all, political momentum on the gay marriage issue is running against it: as of May 8, 2012, when North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment to preventing redefining marriage and other types of state-recognized same-sex unions by a whopping 61percent to 39 percent, it became number 30 in states that have taken such a stand. If this is an important issue for you, get involved: contact the National Organization for Marriage (www.nationformarriage.org), Campaign for Working Families (www.cwfpac.com), and the Family Research Council (http://www.frc.org). Third, register to vote, find out the candidates' stands on issues, and then go to the polls as an informed voter.

Identity theft is now part of everyday news stories—it is estimated that approximately 15 million United States residents have their identities used fraudulently each year with financial losses totaling upwards of $50 billion. As many as seven percent of all Americans  have their identities misused with each instance resulting in approximately $3,500 in losses. Middle American News reders know more than the average citizen that our borders aren’t secure. A powerful new weapon to use in educating others is this eye-opening interview with Steve McCraw, Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety on MSNBC. ☛ A 1995 C-SPAN tape just released shows Attorney General Eric Holder, who was then a U.S. attorney in the Justice Department of the Clinton Administration, saying that people must be brainwashed on guns in order to change the hearts and minds of citizens on the subject of violence. Holder states that in order to get citizens to begin to think differently about guns, advertising agencies, newspapers, and television and radio stations should run anti-gun public service ads similar to those launched by the government in the 1960s to change the public's perception about smoking.
