The Biggest Losers

On January 1, 2013, the largest tax increase in history will occur automatically in the United States unless Congress and the White House take positive action to avert it

.
The “Bush tax cuts,” which Congress and Obama agreed to extend in 2010, are scheduled to expire for all income levels. The two-year, “temporary” payroll tax cut, which endangers the future of Social Security, will also end. The capital gains tax rate will increase by nearly 60 percent and the notorious “death tax” will return.

As usual, those with the largest incomes will be hit hardest. The Heritage Foundation recently analyzed the impact of these impending tax increases on the wealthiest congressional districts, and estimated the impact on tax filers in those areas:

Rank; District; Avg. increase per taxpayer; Representative; First Elected

1 - NY 14 - $13,951 - Carolyn Maloney (D), -1992
2 - CA 30 -$10,128 - Henry Waxman (D), -1974
3 CT 4 - $10,092 -James Himes (D), -2008
4 NY 8 - $9,511-  Jerrold Nadler (D), -1992
5 NY 18-  $8,715 -Nita Lowey (D), -1988
6 CA 14 -$8,503- Anna Eshoo (D), -1992
7 IL 10 -$7,605- Robert Dold (R), -2010
8 TX 7 -$7,211- John Culbertson (R), -2000
9 CA 48 -$7,168- John Campbell (R), -2004
10 FL 22 -$7,087- Allen West (R), -2010

It is shocking to realize that the wealthiest districts in America tend elect the most socialist-leaning candidates to Congress, and that they continue to return them time after time. Not only are the richest six districts all represented by leftist loons, but five of those six will have held office for at least two decades by the end of this year.  Unfortunately, a tragically high proportion of America’s super-rich are so left-wing that their radical representatives in the House will continue to hold office as long as they wish. After all, wealthy Americans continue slavishly to donate tens of millions to Obama and other profit-hating Democrats even as those pols damn “the rich” as the cause of all evil and misfortune in the world — in much the same demagogic way that Adolf Hitler blamed “the Jews” for everything. According to Heritage, the January 1 tax hikes will cost the average American family $4,138 for 2013, while retirees will pay $857 more and low-income workers will be taxed an additional $1,207 over their current rates. This — not the effect on the wealthy — is the real tragedy of “Taxmageddon,” as January 1 has been dubbed. The disastrous effects of such skyrocketing taxation will inevitably discourage or destroy job-creating small businesses and force the unemployment rate even higher than it has been for the entire term of the Obama regime.

A Setback for Big Brother
One of the Obama regime’s most underhanded attempts to destroy private colleges and concentrate all higher learning in the hands of government was dealt a blow recently — by an Obama-appointed federal judge.

The Department of Education had issued regulations denying students federal aid to attend for-profit colleges if those institutions did not meet its standards of preparing pupils for “gainful employment.” Among the standards was a requirement for students to have a 35 percent loan repayment rate as alleged evidence that the schools helped graduates obtain employment.

The Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities sued, contending that DOE had no right to create an esoteric standard for “gainful employment” beyond simply “a job that pays.”

Although Washington, D.C., Judge Rudolph Contreras ruled against that commonsense interpretation, he did strike down the rule because the repayment standard was unfounded and was so intertwined with the other “gainful employment” standards that it could not be severed.

“No expert study or industry standard suggested that the rate selected by the Department would appropriately measure whether a particular program adequately prepared its students,” Contreras wrote. “Instead, the Department simply explained that the chosen rate would identify the worst-performing quarter of programs. Why the bottom quarter?”

Why, indeed? After all, in an economy like the current Obama “recovery,” even those trained for useful and needed jobs often cannot find employment at a salary that would allow them to repay their education loans. Public-sector schools are exempt from the regulation, so their "Black History," "Women's Studies" and other useless programs would not have to meet the same “gainful employment” standard.

Judge Contreras returned the rule to DOE, which can now try to find a less arbitrary way to destroy private education on behalf of Big Government’s insatiable urge to control all aspects of American life.

Will Republicans Sell Out?

The Senate is now at loggerheads about how to pay for extending the current 3.4 percent interest rate on student loans. That rate is set to double to 6.8 percent on July 1 unless Congress acts to stop it.

In an effort to attract the votes of college students, Barack Obama has deliberately attempted to create the impression that the rate will rise on existing loans, and that Republicans oppose the lower rate. In fact, it would increase only on new loans, and the GOP backs the lower rate. The sticking point is how to pay for this $6 billion benefit. Democrats have demanded additional taxes on Subchapter S corporations, while Republicans want budget cuts in other areas.

On June 6, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) offered a deal — changing the formula for calculating employer pension contributions to squeeze more tax dollars out of businesses, and increasing employers’ premiums for coverage by the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. According to Reid, this would not only fund the interest-rate reduction, but also pending surface transportation legislation.

Astonishingly, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) responded to the offer by saying, "we are encouraged to see the majority leader drop his insistence on taxing job creators." In fact, both of Reid’s proposed changes are exactly that — both mean higher payments to the federal government from U.S. businesses, which would discourage new hiring and encourage layoffs and other cutbacks.

Why on earth would Republicans even pretend that the perpetually prevaricating Reid’s "deal" is anything but a massive tax increase? Is the GOP leadership, fearful of Obama’s demagogic appeal to the youth vote, preparing to agree to what are essentially billions of dollars in tax increases on already hard-pressed American businesses?

Green Fraud

Lying is as necessary to the Obama regime as breathing is to human beings, because there is no possibility of survival without it. Unfortunately, when the most cynical and pitiful Obama lies are finally exposed, public reaction is usually a grim amusement rather than true outrage and a serious demand for justice.

During the 2008 campaign, Obama pledged to create 5 million new "green" jobs. After expending $39 billion of our tax dollars on this fantasy, his lackeys today claim 3 million people are working at such jobs.

In fact, admits even the far-left Washington Post, the total number of real, permanent jobs created in the "green" industry is just 3,545 — at a cost of $11 million per job.

What is behind the three-million lie? Relentlessly grilling a Department of Labor flunky at a recent House hearing, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) put the ludicrous justifications for that falsehood on display. Under Issa’s stern questioning, the witness reluctantly admitted that all of the following individuals are officially engaged in jobs categorized as "green" by the Obamacrats at Labor:

* a person who sweeps the floor at a solar panel facility

* a bus driver

* a person who puts gas into buses

* a clerk at a bicycle shop, or at a used record shop

* a college professor who teaches environmental courses

* a reporter who writes on environmental topics

* a lobbyist who tries to influence legislators on environmental issues

Unfortunately, there will be no retribution for Hilda Solis (D-CA) — Obama’s Labor Secretary, former congresswoman, eternal union stooge and unabashed socialist — over the perpetration of this outrageous fraud against the American people, not to mention the waste of $39 billion. A good, long prison sentence is in order, and more’s the pity that she will enjoy a generous federal pension instead when she leaves the post to which she was appointed by the biggest dissembler in the current regime.

 Schumer: Your Swastika Is Showing

Although Adolf Hitler and his Nazis wanted German Jews to leave the country in the 1930s, they used a special emigration tax specifically “to prevent wealthy Jews from transferring their millions, perhaps billions abroad.” The Reichsfluchtsteuer (Reich flight tax), which was actually imposed by the Weimar government before Hitler took power, amounted to 25 percent levy of the wealth of refugees who were worth at least $12,000 or had annual incomes of about $4,800 or more.  Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Bob Casey (D-PA) recently proposed a similar tax against the eerily similar Democrat bogeyman of “millionaires and billionaires” who give up their American citizenship to avoid the confiscatory taxation that their party, and especially their own leader (Obama), are determined to impose on the United States.  The alleged outrage that supposedly prompted this tantrum is, like so many causes espoused by Schumer, a falsehood. In his press release, Schumer denounced Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin “who recently unleashed a scheme to renounce his U.S. citizenship in order to dodge taxes on profits he is expected to collect” when the firm went public in May. But the release also noted that Saverin (who was born in Brazil) dropped his U.S. citizenship in September 2011 — not “recently” — and that he has been living in Singapore since 2009.  Nevertheless, unable to control his rage at being “cheated” out of an estimated $67 million in projected taxes from Saverin, which he wants to spend on leftist causes, Schumer has gone Hitler one better and proposed to tax such economic refugees at a 30 percent rate.  “We’re not going to let him get away with it so easily,” Schumer fumed, as if the Constitution does not absolutely bar ex post facto legislation. Using the tired old Obama cliches of vagueness, he further ranted: “Renouncing citizenship to simply avoid paying your fair share is an insult to middle class Americans and we will not accept it.” Schumer and his leader both steadfastly refuse to define the term, “fair share.”  Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, beat us to the punch by commenting: “I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s . . . . He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.”  Under the Schumer-Casey proposal, anyone with a net worth of $2 million or an average income tax liability of at least $148,000 over the last five years who leaves the country and renouces their citizenship “would be inadmissable to the United States forever.” (At the same time, Schumer champions the supposed “right” of any illegal alien to enter and enjoy life in the United States at taxpayer expense.)  Schumer (a United Nations booster) has not bothered to explain how his proposal squares with the U.N.'s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which asserts that “Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own,” and “No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.”

Obama’s Endorsements From Depths

* Raunchy pornographer Larry Flynt endorsed Barack Obama for re-election. Two years after denouncing him as an “ineffectual wimp” for knuckling under to Republicans (what was Flynt drinking then?), he now says Obama “has over-performed . . . . I think he’s done a marvelous job.”  Flynt’s views about other things are equally twisted. In a recent interview, he said he believes that pornography is good for society, and attributes his own brief “very profound religious experience” of the 1970s as due to an “iodine deficiency” in his diet. “Do you think that more devoutly religious Americans would be less devoutly religious if they just ate more salt?” this lowlife mused.

* Francois Hollande, newly elected socialist president of France, has endorsed Obama. No surprise there — birds of a feather flock together.  * For the third time, the Communist Party USA has endorsed Obama for office, this time declaring that only he and the Democrats have a chance to beat the “reactionary, racist, anti-labor, anti-women, homophobic and militarist” GOP — sounds just like an Obama campaign commercial, doesn’t it? The commies also endorsed him for Senate in 2004 and for the White House in 2008.

But wash your eyes out with these far saner observations:

* Obama “is a guy who literally is walking around in a dark room trying to find the light switch of leadership.” — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R)  * “We have not seen such a divisive figure in modern American history as we have over the last three and a half years.” — Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)  * “I spent some time with the highest tenured faculty member at Chicago Law a few months back . . . . According to my professor friend, [Obama, when he was a constitutional law teacher] had the lowest intellectual capacity in the building . . . . The other professors hated him because he was lazy, unqualified.” — Doug Ross, blogger  “Mr. Obama has said a lot of unsmart things: there are 57 states; Canada has a president; ‘Austrian’ is a language; America is ‘20 centuries’ old; Arabic is spoken in Afghanistan. He’s called the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) the Maldives, and declared it would be ‘unprecedented’ for the Supreme Court to invalidate a law passed by Congress.” — Jack Kelly in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  “The man who promised everything is delivering nothing. Journalists who wept when he won the election now grind their teeth in despair . . . . The gap between sizzle and steak never seemed so large.” — Noemie Emery in The Weekly Standard

No Free Speech Allowed

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), who is also Obama’s hand-picked chair of the Democratic National Committee and one of his biggest cheerleaders, was recently dis-invited to speak to a Miami synagogue outside her congressional district. The cancellation came after a prominent member of the congregation, who is also chairman of the local Mitt Romney campaign, resigned when he was refused equal time to speak for his candidate.  Temple president Ben Kuehne — an attorney for former Vice President Al Gore in his attempt to steal the electoral votes of Florida in the 2000 presidential election — claimed the appearance was cut because of “security concerns.”  But Stanley Tate said his resignation followed a ruling by synagogue leadership that no one but Schultz would be permitted to speak. “She’s the chairman of the Democrat National Committee,” Tate commented. “The topic is the U.S.-Israel relationship. There cannot be any conversation on that topic, none, unless it has to do with the politics.”  Shultz is a notorious filibusterer and consistently refuses to answer tough questions when she appears on TV and radio interview shows, where she spews the Democratic party “talking points” to the exclusion of any fair and rational discussion of issues.

A Loser Already

Incumbent President Lyndon Johnson (D-TX) bowed out of the 1968 election after taking just 50 percent of the New Hampshire primary vote in a hard-fought campaign with Sen. Eugene McCarthy (D-MN), who garnered 42 percent.  By contrast, Barack Obama was unable to claim 60 percent of the West Virginia primary vote on May 8 against Keith Judd, who got 41 percent and carried 10 counties while incarcerated in a federal prison in Texas for the entire campaign period. Judd’s total campaign expenses consisted of a $2,500 filing fee.  Previous to this dramatic result, the media had largely concealed the fact that Obama has hardly been the unanimous candidate of Democratic voters this year. In Oklahoma’s Dem primary, anti-abortion protestor Randall Terry carried 18 percent of the vote and 15 counties. Some 21 percent of Democrats chose “no preference” over Obama in the North Carolina contest, while 18 percent preferred “uncommitted” in Alabama.  Tennessee attorney John Wolfe took almost 18,000 votes, nearly 12 percent, in the March 24 Louisiana contest; two other candidates took an additional 11-plus percent between them, holding Obama to less than 77 percent in that state. Wolfe went on to snare almost 42 percent in the May 22 Arkansas primary, winning a near-majority of 36 of the state’s 75 counties — while spending just $2,000. “We did it without a single radio or television ad,” boasted Wolfe, who has run three times unsuccessfully for Congress.  Obama, of course, has an ego far bigger than Lyndon Johnson’s — maybe even bigger than Texas itself.

"There is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress."  Mark Twain

Above the Law?

Just as last month’s column went to press, a new book, Throw Them All Out, blew the lid off insider stock trading by members of Congress — which is perfectly legal since they exempted themselves from the laws that everyone else must follow. Author Peter Schweizer recounts how members use information obtained in performing their official duties to make stock trades, obtain impossible-to-get initial public stock offerings (IPOs) and gain other personal financial advantages. Just a few examples: Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) sold his shares of 90 different stocks on September 17, 2008, one day after he received a closed-door briefing from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulsen — allowing Moran to escape the crash that devastated American investors just a few days later. Then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her husband made hundreds of thousands of dollars on a number of IPOs. Then-Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) invested in health care stocks as the Obamacare legislation moved through Congress, and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), whose wife is a billionaire, bought and sold similar stocks even as he was helping to write the Obamacare law, using his knowledge of which industries were "winners" and which were "losers" in that abominable act to increase his personal wealth. Many other outrages are documented in the book, including indefensible actions by Reps. Spencer Bachus (R-AL), Gary Ackerman (D-NY), former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), John Tanner (D-TN), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Sens. Robert Torricelli (D-NJ), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Tom Carper (D-DE), Jim Webb (D-VA) and others too numerous to list here. Several bills to end this special exemption for members of Congress are floating around in the wake of this revelation, but there’s no assurance that any one will actually get enough votes to pass any time soon . . . .

GOP — Beyond Stupid

Obama and the Democrats have handed Republicans the best chance they ever had to wrest the Social Security vote from the "D" column, and they have steadfastly refused to take advantage of this gift. At the end of 2010, in the name of "stimulus," the lame-duck Democratic Congress passed legislation that cut by a third the payroll (Social Security) tax all workers and employers pay to fund the program. Now Obama wants to increase that cut to half, and demagogues that Republicans’ failure to agree will constitute a "tax increase." Instead of telling the truth about this scheme — that it undermines the entire basis of Social Security by eliminating hundreds of billions in actual cash flowing into the system, the only real money in the program, the rest being government IOUs in the "trust fund." Democrats propose to make up this $100 billion-plus shortfall by putting a special tax on the "rich" over a ten-year period — meaning that one year’s spending will be paid for over a decade, if future Congresses don’t modify or reverse that law. Republicans, too stupid to point out this danger to the future of Social Security, want to "compromise" by making federal employees pay the difference in long-term salary freezes and making approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, which Obama has so cowardly deferred until after the election, a condition of their support. The GOP is being effectively hammered as haters of the middle class for this ploy when they could have completely turned the tables on the Dems as destroyers of Social Security — but they are too stupid to take control of the issue. Only a few Republicans — notably Rep. Michelle Bachmann (MN) and Sen. Mark Kirk (IL) — have tried to rally their party in this way, but the "leadership" won’t follow. If there were any real alternative, nobody would (or should) vote for Republicans. Unfortunately, they are the only game in town, and any alternative to Obama, no matter how dumb, is preferable to four more years of his utter failure and creeping socialism . . . . Where Are the Cuts? As this is written, the federal government is just days away from running out of money authorized by a continuing resolution passed in November. So far, spending levels in all of the stopgap measures have been at or near the previous two years, when Obama and the Democrats increased spending dramatically and created annual deficits of well over a trillion dollars. Within the week, another temporary spending bill will be approved, which will further plunge the nation into the abyss of debt. The people did not send Republicans to the House in record numbers just to do business as usual and maintain Obama levels of spending. That said, however, those voters did place Republicans in an impossible position in 2010, giving them a sizeable majority in the House, but allowing the Senate to remain in the hands of radical Democrats. In such a situation, the only way the GOP can keep the government operating is to compromise with the other party on spending; otherwise, their enemies can be successful in branding them as obstructionists. Unfortunately, even if they take control of both houses and the White House next year, it is still questionable whether Republicans will make any serious budget cuts then . . . .

Barely-Covered News

Most reports on the sentencing of former Gov. (and ex-Rep.) Rod Blagojevich (D-IL) to 14 years in prison totally failed to mention his party affiliation. Most media stories about GOP corruption, of course, lead with "Republican John Smith was sentenced...," but Dems are almost always protected by their allies in the press . . . . Rep. Dale Kildee (D-MI) has denied accusations by his own family members that he sexually molested a minor male relative more than 50 years ago. Kildee, who has already announced his retirement in 2012, claims this is a blackmail attempt. Keeping things in the family, Dan Kildee, a nephew, is expected to seek his House seat . . . . Almost totally suppressed fact that William Lerach, a disgraced trial lawyer who served two years in federal prison and paid a $7.5 million fine after conviction for fraud which gained him $250 million, is now out and actively raising money for Democrats by opening his "stunning" California estate to filthy-rich Dem donors . . . . Also unreported is that Democratic strategist Robert Creamer, a convicted felon, a 2008 Obama campaign consultant, husband of radical Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and a mastermind of Obamacare and the rabble-rousing "Occupy Wall Street" protests, has visited the White House 60 times — an average of once every two and a half weeks — since Obama moved in . . . .

Net Worthless

The media delight in reporting on the number of millionaires in Congress, but we find the number of financial failures there far more interesting. According to a new report from the Center for Responsive Politics, some 29 members of the House and Senate — more than five percent — have an average net worth of zero or less! (The "average" is a result of members reporting within a range, rather than specific numbers, and does not include personal property, including automobiles, government retirement accounts and primary residences.) Most of the 29 are either brand-new Republican members, some recently separated from the military, or longtime congressional Democrats — including two high-profile "leaders" of the party. At zero are Jim Moran (D-VA), Hank Johnson (D-GA), Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Duncan D. Hunter (R-CA). Those with a negative net worth are, in descending order: Keith Ellison (D-MN), Steve Scalise (R-LA), Tim Griffin (R-AR), Andre Carson (D-IN), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL, head of the Democratic National Committee!), Raul Labrador (R-ID), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI, the only senator in this group), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Steve Israel (D-NY, head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee!), Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), Renee Elmers (R-NC), Kevin Yoder (R-KS), Grace Napolitano (D-CA), Kristi Noem (R-SD), John Conyers (D-MI), Nydia Valezquez (D-NY), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Sean Duffy (R-WI), Terri Sewell (D-AL), Laura Richardson (D-CA), Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX), Steve Fincher (R-TN) and last, with an astonishing net worth of minus $4.7 million, is disgraced former federal judge Alcee Hastings (D-FL). Why do we allow people who can’t even manage their own financial affairs to decide how trillions of tax dollars will be spent? . . .

Crying Wolf

Alarmed at the efforts of several states to deter the vote fraud on which their party depends in some areas for its margin of victory, Democrats are screaming that these perfectly reasonable laws constitute "suppression" of the minority vote and are "the modern-day equivalent of poll taxes and literacy tests." Their lies are legion — minorities don’t have the required ID (even though they have ID to cash their welfare checks, and the laws make such IDs available for free) — any ID requirement "intimidates minorities" (only if they are lawbreakers) — and endless other examples of such claptrap. We know that some illegal aliens, felons and others not entitled to vote do cast ballots in U.S. elections. Illegals were probably responsible for defeating Rep. Bob Dornan (D-CA) in a close election and replacing him with Loretta Sanchez (D) more than a decade ago. Illegal aliens are also likely to have put Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) in office in a razor-thin election in the early 2000s. Rather than "compromising" or coddling these lawbreakers, state and federal officials must take a hard line against vote fraud and institute all reasonable measures to combat it. After all, every illegal vote cancels out the legitimate ballot of an honest citizen — why does no one care about the citizen’s right to have his vote count? . . .

Can It Happen Here?

Radical-left Democrats have repeatedly proposed legislation authorizing the federal government to take over all 401(k) and similar retirement accounts and "guarantee" repayment, with minimal interest, through the Social Security system. Think it can’t happen here? In December, Portugal seized some 6.5 billion euros from pension funds and transferred the money to four big banks in a desperate effort to fool the European Union into believing that nation was meeting its deficit reduction targets . . . .

Unnatural Acts

The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved legislation repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which is all that precents states from being forced to honor same-sex "marriages" performed in those few jurisdictions that allow them. The vote was 10-8, strictly along party lines. During debate, Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said DOMA infringes on state authority — although she doesn’t believe states should have the right to set their own speed limits or blood-alcohol standards . . . . In support of homosexual "marriage," a legal brief asserting that DOMA is unconstitutional has been filed in a major court case by 133 House Democrats. Among them were 13 still-serving Democrats who actually voted for DOMA in 1996, and now want to change sides: Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), minority leadership token James Clyburn (SC), Robert Andrews (NJ), Earl Blumenauer (OR), Rosa DeLauro (CT), Bob Filner (CA), Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX), Sander Levin (MI), Nita Lowey (NY), Carolyn McCarthy (NY), Richard Neal (MA), Ed Pastor (AZ) and Bobby Rush. Sheila Jackson-Lee (TX) signed onto the brief, although she was such a coward in 1996 that she voted "present" instead of taking either side. Then-Congressmen Ben Cardin (MD), Chuck Schumer (NY), Dick Durbin (IL) and Robert Menendez (NJ) voted for DOMA 15 years ago.  Some 75 House members, mostly Democrats, are demanding the IRS violate DOMA and allow homosexual couples to file joint federal tax returns. The effort is led by Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) . . . .

Miscellaneous Outrages

Rep. Robert Andrews has been caught using more than $7,700 in campaign funds to pay for a luxury trip to Scotland, to attend the wedding of a political contributor and consultant. Another $2,600 in questionable payments was also found. Punishment for this blatant abuse? Barely a slap on the wrist — Andrews will reimburse his campaign war chest, and the money will then be donated to charity . . . . The Cannon House Office Building was recently the scene for a memorial service for homosexual activist Frank Kameny, who died in November at age 86. Praising Kameny for more than half a century of radical activism were the four openly homosexual Reps. Barney Frank (D-MA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), who is now running for the Senate, Jared Polis (D-CO) and David Cicilline (D-RI), plus Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and probably others who were discreetly not named in press reports.
