n July 4th, Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, 41, a devout Muslim immigrant from Egypt, walked up to the ticket counter of the Israeli airline, El Al, in the Los Angeles International Airport(LAX) and quickly fired off 10 or 11 rounds, killing two and wounding three before an El Al security guard gunned him down. Within minutes, the sprawling Los Angeles airport, one of the world's largest was shut down, hundreds of flights were delayed and thousands of passengers were temporarily stranded, confused and frightened. The nation was stunned by the calculated act of violence which an Israeli official quickly labeled a terrorist attack but about which the FBI said, "We don't know, we don't want to jump to conclusions."

Exactly what do we know about Hesham Mohamed Hadayet? We know he came to the United States in July, 1992, on a six-month tourist visa and then, once here, applied for permanent residence status which was denied. As he was about to be deported, his wife Hala (also from Egypt) was granted the coveted permanent residency status through the U.S. State Department's Diversity Lottery Program and so his own deportation process was terminated because he now had a wife who was a permanent resident! Owner of a small limousine service in a L.A. suburb, Hadayet is described by neighbors as a quiet man of few words. But his actions spoke volumes as he killed Victoria Hen, 25 and Jacob Aminov, a 46-year-old father of five.

Was Hadayet a loner acting out his own self-motivated Jihad, or was he one of many Muslim moles waiting quietly and unnoticed for orders to strike Americans-wherever, whenever, and for whatever mission?

Tragically, Hen and Aminov are dead today because of the ill-conceived Diversity Lottery Program.

How many more Americans need to be killed before our senseless immigration policies are finally scrapped?

We know that the Immigration and Naturalization Service mishandled the paperwork regarding most of the Muslim/Arab terrorist hijackers of September 11 because of "a wide-spread failure by many individuals" in the INS agency according to a Justice Department report released on May 20th.

Even more frightening is that according to Sayyid Syeed, secretary general of the Islamic Society (an umbrella organization for Islamic groups throughout the U.S. and Canada), there are over 500,000 Muslim refugees in the United States, many of whom "were torn from their homes by war and other violence." (Baltimore Sun, 7-8-02)

This fact is all the more alarming when we learn that large numbers of the young Muslim/Arabs are not schooled. As George Melloan writes in The Wall Street Journal of July 9, "...Arab lands have the largest percentage of young people in the world-38% are under 14-huge numbers are coming of age who are not schooled or, worse, perversely indoctrinated in hatred of the West.... That means a huge pool of uneducated, unemployed youth from which to draw terrorists, suicide bombers or cannon fodder..." However, many of the young aliens are undoubtedly being schooled (brainwashed) in the Saudi-funded Muslim schools in America where fanaticism is fomented.

It is unlikely that the FBI, the INS, or any agency of our government knows what percentage of those 500,000 Muslim refugees already in the United States are terrorists-in-waiting. The infinite potential of these Muslims to cause chaos via simultaneous suicide attacks, as on 9/11, is ignored by our elected officials, both Democrat and Republican, as they continue their partisan quest for immigrant votes by promising amnesty and citizenship to illegal aliens.
America's very survival is at stake as never before in our history. Our first line of defense is here and now, our own borders in our own country-not in Afghanistan or Iraq. We need to defend America's borders and interior, airports and seaports, power plants and reservoirs, and to do this we need a sane homeland defense which recognizes the logic of profiling, a moratorium on further immigration, deportation of illegal aliens already here, a ban on amnesties, and the use of our military to help the Border Patrol protect our own borders.

To do less is to collaborate in the publicly announced goal of the Muslim brotherhood: death to America.

For too long, American citizens have been used as puppets by partisan politicians who place party above patriotism.

We must not tolerate death by diversity.
