exico's Senate in February approved a resolution denouncing President Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress for considering federal spending legislation that included money to pay for the U.S. Border Patrol and electronic sensors along the border.
El Sol de Mexico in Mexico City reported that "the parliamentary majority" supporting the resolution included members from both of Mexico's largest political parties, PAN and PRI. The resolution called on Mexican President Felipe Calderon to distance himself from relations with the U.S. because the "anti-immigrant measures" are "contrary to human rights."
Sen. Rosario Green Macias, PRI member and chairwoman of the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, sharply criticized the U.S. for what the paper said were actions that amounted to "closing up the border." She denounced President Obama for failing to quickly arrange amnesty for Mexicans living illegally in the U.S. "From now on, we Mexicans will not know what to believe when we speak with the president of all the Americans, because he is a president who fails to keep his word."
Sen. Adriana Gonzalez Carrillo, a member of PAN, noting the percentage of Mexicans comprising large portions of the populations of California, Arizona, and New Mexico, openly insulted the American people. "The senator stated that Mexican immigrants make the United States a better country," reported El Sol de Mexico.
